At 22.00 hrs on 1st December, 2001 Irish Mainport were contacted by the Shannon and Foynes Harbour Master who reported that the 80,000 ton bulk carrier "Princess Vanya" had grounded at the entrance to the river Shannon.

The three Celtic Tugs' vessels "Celtic Isle, "Celtic Banner" and "Celtic Rebel" were mobilized to the scene immediately and attempts were made to refloat the vessel on the next two high tides.
